Autoimmune Diseases

#75HARD DAY 47 COMPLETED!

Autoimmune diseases are increasingly common, including lupus, Hashimoto’s, rheumatoid arthritis, pulmonary fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, and many more.
Today, in the Food Revolution Summit, we’re sharing stories of hope and healing along with practical tools to help prevent and even reverse autoimmune disease.
There are many myths about the benefits of gluten-free, ketogenic, and plant-based diets. Today, my dad, best-selling author, John Robbins, guides our panelists as they get to the bottom of it all and share the connection between food, inflammation, and preventing disease.
We’re halfway through the 2020 Food Revolution Summit now, and there’s still time to join us.
Abdullah, because I treasure your partnership in the food revolution, I want to share some of my top highlights from what we’ve learned so far:
  • Your immune system is enormously bolstered, or weakened, by the foods you eat. That means what you eat has an impact on how your body could respond to COVID-19. In the time of this global pandemic, your health is more important than ever before.
  • The good news is that eating healthy, whole, and plant-based foods can help your immune system get the nutrients it needs to protect you from illness — and not just in the current pandemic — but also from long-term diseases like cancer, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.
  • Your brain and heart can also be protected by the food you eat — and choose not to eat. The science of performance is in, and your diet plays an enormous role in how well you sleep (or don’t sleep), think, feel, and perform in every area of your life.
And there’s been so much more.
If you haven’t been attending the Summit – here’s the good news… You can still join us (free) because:
Today’s topic is Autoimmunity: How to Prevent & Reverse Inflammatory Conditions.
Here’s what you can look forward to today:
  • Saray Stancic, MD, The Autoimmunity Breakthrough. (At 11 am Eastern time, 8 am Pacific time) You’ll find out how Dr. Stancic used lifestyle medicine to reverse multiple sclerosis — and discover the astounding power of simple changes to generate lasting results in your life.
  • Brooke Goldner, MD, Goodbye Autoimmune Disease. (At 12 pm Eastern, 9 am Pacific) You’ll be inspired by Dr. Goldner’s extraordinary story, and find out how you can leverage the healing power of food to prevent rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and other forms of autoimmune disease. You’ll discover the best foods for autoimmune healing and how diet impacts inflammation.
  • Anthony William (aka the “Medical Medium”), Cleanse to Heal.  (At 1 pm Eastern, 10 am Pacific) You’ll hear what the “Spirit of Compassion” says about illness, suffering, and healing in our world today. And you’ll gain a unique perspective on why your body needs to cleanse and the power of a positive attitude through suffering.
This Summit is all free. It’s the best place to be to invest in your health and the health of your loved ones. These insights could be life-changing. I don’t want you to miss it!
Ocean Robbins
P.S. Maybe you can’t join in now? Or you want to catch up on what you missed? This year is the most important Summit yet because we’ve discussed how you can protect yourself from chronic diseases — and guard your health in the time of COVID-19. You can own the entire 2020 Food Revolution Summit to get the full interviews, including written transcripts and $2,000+ worth of bonuses for the Summit special 50% discount price.

Zinc-The Food Revolution

I just wanted to share some of the information shared by The Food Revolution regarding Zinc. I hope you enjoy and if not already doing so add this information to your nutrition toolbox. Peace

Hi Abdullah,

An "essential" nutrient means one that your body cannot make on its own.

Essential nutrients must be obtained through food or supplementation.

Zinc has gained popularity for its proven ability to not only reduce the duration of a common cold, but to enhance immune function and assist in healing wounds.

Although the mineral is mostly bioavailable in animal products, many plant foods contain relatively high amounts of zinc.

The recommended daily intake of zinc for most adult men is 11mg per day, and 8mg for adult women.

**This would vary for pregnant or nursing women. Anyone considering supplementation of any kind should consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before making any changes. This is not medical advice.

Since our bodies require a constant supply of zinc, here is a list of some of the top food sources to get this important nutrient into your diet!

Cashews: Cashews are one of the highest sources of zinc in any plant food. 1 ounce of cashews contains 1.6 mg of zinc. Not only are cashews high in zinc, but it's been demonstrated in studies that cashews are also effective against gram-positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus and can be used to fight infections.

Chickpeas: Regular consumers of chickpeas have also been shown to have higher levels of dietary fiber, polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin C, folate, magnesium, potassium, and iron. Just 1 cup of chickpeas contains 2.6 mg of zinc. Additionally, research is now suggesting that chickpeas may play a beneficial role in weight management and glucose regulation.

Pumpkin Seeds: Pumpkin seeds have a wide range of healthy and healing properties. The seeds are high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, support diabetics with controlling blood sugar levels, and even improve sperm quality. 1 ounce of pumpkin seeds contains 2.2 mg of zinc. Pumpkin seeds are not only high in zinc and other phytonutrients, but they're also used to naturally kill parasites.

Hemp Seeds: One of the most versatile plants in the world brings us a high amount of zinc, amongst other essential nutrients. Just 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds contains 1.98 mg of Zinc and almost as much protein as soybeans. One study showed that compounds in hemp seeds may have neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, effects and may also help to regulate the immune system.

Kidney Beans: Kidney beans have a reputation for naturally lowering cholesterol levels, regulating blood sugar levels, support in weight loss and also prevent cancer. 1/2 cup of cooked kidney beans contains about 1 mg of zinc. Cooking or sprouting kidney beans enhances the bioavailability of zinc.

Avocado: This creamy, delicious, versatile fruit is not only healthy for the eyes, skin, bones and heart, but also comes is one of the highest in zinc. 1 avocado contains 1.3 mg of zinc, making it one of the highest fruit sources of zinc. Avocados also contain high amounts of folate, a mineral imperative during pregnancy and for preventing depression.

Blackberries: Blackberries are not only very high in antioxidants, but their astringent qualities make them useful for detoxification. Blackberries are also used as a remedy for diarrhea. Just 1 cup of blackberries contains 0.3 mg of zinc.

Zinc is also a key nutrient for skin health and seems to have helped me when I was dealing with acne as a younger man. I hope this list helps you remember that everything you eat can either contribute to healing, or contribute to disease.

The only question is which will we choose.

To a healing future,
Rob

New Strategy Today

#75HARD DAY 44 COMPLETED!!!

I took a little different approach today. I completed both workouts and stock class before sunset. I finished the water from sunset to midnight and completed my reading and watched a vegan cooking show during the day as well. That might have to be the strategy during Ramadan.

I spent the evening outside relaxing and watching track and field and news clips. Quite entertaining.

That's it folks.

Ramadan, Breaking The Fast

#75HARD DAY 42 COMPLETED!!!

This is how I break the fast during Ramadan.

I had a nice 90 min ride after breaking the fast. I did my reading earlier. I going to try to complete one of the 45 min workouts during the day. That gallon of water is a challenge during Ramadan. I also completed another stock class tonight and did a couple of loads of laundry.

Good night.

Crescent Moon

#75HARD DAY 42 COMPLETE !!!

I went for my walk tonight and was lucky enough to catch a crescent moon.

I did have a busy day.  One Saturday a month I facilitate a DV class for first-time offenders.  Great class today. Later in the evening, I put 2 hrs of stock training.

Finishing my last bit of water. Sleeping in on the agenda tonight. We'll see how that works.

Stock Class Day

#75HARD DAY 41!!! COMPLETED!!!

First day of fasting for Ramadan.  It went well. Sort of. My alarm was set for 4am and I hit the snooze button. I woke up a bit later and had to hit turbo drive to get something to eat and drink before prayer time.  Tomorrow I'll get out of the bed when the alarm goes off.

So pretty much the usual for the day.  Reading, stock class, surf the web and expose folks to my business.

Around sunset, I broke the fast with three dates and a glass of water. After bowing down  I had a nice salad with falafel, red onions, tomatoes and dressings(olive oil, lemon, salt, honey, pepper).  A short time later I had some leftover bean soup.

If I don't ride the bike I gotta get that walk in. Free pub for somebody.

The rest of the evening/night was spent completing more stock classes and drinking that gallon of water. It's a little more challenging since during Ramadan, no drinking or eating until sunset.

Signing off for now.

Peace

Ramadan Mubarak

#75HARD DAY 40!! COMPLETE!!!

Today was a good day. I am not a shopper BUT today I stopped in two stores and was wondering what the heck is going on. 100% of everything was plant-based.

Baiz Market and American Discount Foods

This is the world we live in now when it comes to shopping.

Baiz market makes some really good falafel, pickled beets and tabouli.

Got that walk in. I'm thinking the 45 min walk will soon be 60 min. Before the walk, I watched The Melanin Code

Finishing up my reading before heading to bed.

Ramadan Mubarak!

Wednesday Night Rider

#75HARD DAY 39!!!

Just a normal day for me. I get up early and have breakfast and head outdoors to read, surf the web, and call friends and family.

I really procrastinated about the bike ride. I was planning on going in am but ended up going around 10pm. Right. It was really windy but nice. Any time you go for a ride it's a good day.

Ramadan starts tomorrow evening. I'm looking forward to the month of fasting.

Master Class Morning

#75HARDE DAY 38 COMPLETE!!!

I was just thinking what did I have for breakfast.......ha ha. Rice, hummus, pita bread and a cup of coffee.

I completed an 80 min Master Class for health-conscious folks. Snacked on nuts and seeds most of the day as opposed to yesterday when I was grazing all day and night. A lot of self-development reads, training and videos took up most of the afternoon. I did get a short bike ride in with the wife. Dinner was well worth the wait as I made some black-eyed peas with, onion, carrots, kale and soul-fu oil.

Spring in the desert.  This is a great time to be outdoors and that's what I did.  Facetiming, reading, listening to music, catching up on news and eating. ha ha.

Later I went for the night walk and put in 2+ miles.  I just finished reading the article "Evidence over hysteria - COVID-19".   Time to shut it down.

Lentils, onion, vegan sausage, cilantro, tomatoes, pita bread, and apple juice.

Compelling. The day was spent watching documentaries and stock training.  Most of the day was spent outside. It was really nice out.

Some quick grub before heading out for a night ride. Potatoes, soul-fu, onions and tomatoes.

My bike ride later was worth the ride. Let just say I went to Cycology class. The temp was 69-70.....because I'm a procrastinator the late night was spent completed #75HARD.

Photo's of the day. I had way to much time after my laps playing around. haha

No Bike Ride Today

I started the day with a fruit bowl.  "No Bike Ride Today".  Read mostly from How Not To Die.  Got in little business training in that was well worth the time. So between eating, reading and soaking up the sunshine, let's just say it was a relaxing day. After sundown I took a walk to the store for view produce items. It was a good day. I'll get that bike ride in tomorrow for sure. It's my therapy and cycology. ha ha

How Not To Die

Another productive day. I put on the uniform this morning and headed for the Rio Salado Habitat. Before heading out for a ride I had a moment to reflect on 43 years of being a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

SS Centaur 4-16-77 0516

Ran into a 78yo cyclist how shared a few stories of 1984 Olympic Silver Medalist Cyclist Nelson Vails

A view of downtown Phoenix from the bike path

When you have a chance check out Rio Salado Habitat. They have tons of trails for hiking and biking.

After the ride, it was time for some r&r and later for some steamed cabage, carrots, onions, potatoes and cilantros.  Good stuff.

I spent the evening outside under the stars reading How Not To Die. This is a must have. I suggest you add this to you library asap.

Bike Cleaning Day

Cleaned a couple of bikes today. No pics.  The highlight would be cooking some lentils with various spices.....the smell though....it was good.

I spent most of the day outside. I pretty much do that every day. It's the desert.

A day of rest and reflection

The day was spent mostly reading and downloading health and wellness products.

E-books for http://youhealyou.net
1) Change Your Mind Change Your Body
2) Live Food

After watching The Need To Grow  I order the
1) The Impact Kit
2) The Ultimate Health Collection

Most of the afternoon was spent reading and listening to info related to wellness and health.

Around 9:30pm I was like, put on the uniform and go for a ride. The temp was in the 60"s. That made for a really nice 45-60 minute ride.

#75HARD DAY 29 was a very relaxed and productive day.

Sun, Rain, Sun

Yeah. That kind of day. I got caught in the rain today and it was a downpour. The halfway mark was Regroup Coffee + Bicycles. Great service....can't wait to go back and have some coffee after the pandemic.

So because I spent most of the morning and early afternoon facetiming, I wound up completing #75HARD DAY 28 late into the night.  Done!

Facetime Kinda Day

#75HARD DAY 27 [Check]

Nice day to relax and enjoy a desert breeze and catch up with some folks via facetime.

Nothing like a grape, blueberry, blackberry and banana smoothie to kick things off.

In between calls, how about a slamming Soul-Fu sandwich.

Got that walk in, and picked a few items from the grocery store

Capped the evening off with nice vegan sausage, veggies, and rice.

The remainder of the evening spent completing #75HARD DAY 27.

Done.

Almost......

I'm getting there!!! Around 10:07pm I finished #75HARD DAY 26!!! BAM!!!

Ok, enough of that. I'm still shooting for 10pm.

Breakfast was a fruit bowl, toast and grits. Most of the day was spent putting the new gator skins on the bike while listening to some classic jass.

Then it was time for a little snack before the test ride. Soul-Fu, potatoes, vegan cheese, hot sauce, and a green tortilla. It was so good, I was going to have one as my post-ride meal.

The ride started by spotting some baby hummingbirds. Off for a couple of hours of endurance riding.

So get back and get my burrito post-ride meal.  One addition, jalapenos. After that, I went to work trying to finish #75HARD Day 26 by 10pm. Came up a little short......BUT....progress is being made.

Time to relax....today....was a good day.

1/3 of the Way......#75HARD DAY #25

Yes sir! Day 25 is a big one on this journey. 50 more days to go.  I'll keep it short since I didn't make my 10pm goal.

Breakfast is oatmeal again with all the fixings.

Most of the day was spent outside reading and soaking up some sunlight.....with the music in the background.

Later, windy or not I put on the uniform. You by now right? I got that ride in.

The post-ride meal was nuked potato and coleslaw with everything but the kitchen sink......Bam!!!  Yep, I had seconds! Man, that was good.

After that is was on the finish Day #25 of #75HARD!!!

Peace

Busy, Busy Busy......

Kind of. The day started off with a smoothie and fried potatoes.  I had plans of riding earlier than later. Not happing. I was waiting on a plumber and an order of "soul-fu"[Smoked tofu].

When the dust settled I was able to get a ride in after helping out some fellow TBL Major Taylor Phoenix Riders with a flat.

The first business at hand was to have a soul-fu sandwich before I hit the road. The bike ride/workout turned out great.

Cruised home had a little snack and the rest of the evening was spent completing #75HARD. The downside, I didn't complete it by 10pm....BUT I did complete it!!! So anyway after helping out with the flat, I walked home. After getting dressed to ride I asked, where is the car. My reply after I laughed was, I walked home. I usually walk to Whole Foods because it's close. After the ride, I go pick up the car and while in line at Whole Foods,  there is another constant reminder of the times we live in. #besafe #sixfeet

Well, signing off for now.

Peace
